Why Does My Car Have To Be Serviced So Often?

Servicing your car

What help would you llike?

The alternative to servicing
See, I told you i was sick!

Well, maybe you don’t have to. Though, I suppose the result of not servicing regularly is an eventual breakdown. When is the breakdown  likely to happen? What does it mean for you when it happens? So, what are the chances of your car failing? Surely it depends on a variety of factors; e.g. age of vehicle, age of driver, driving technique, number of K’s done, number of K’s travelled pa, past services, quality of vehicle manufacture, traffic conditions, road surface, etc. Where do you fit?

Say, a car around 5 years old with about 50,000 km on the clock, driven mainly around the suburbs by a mature person is unlikely to breakdown soon. However, worsen any of the factors above and the chance of breakdown increases dramatically. After all, it is just an amalgam of plastic and metal, moving internally at incredible speeds in a harsh environment, commanded by delicate electronics and dependent upon the purity of soothing fluids! Trust only that to which you have given respect!

What does it matter if it does breakdown? Again, it depends. Is it in darkness? Is it a lonely place? Is it in the middle of peak hour? Is it on the Bridge? Where is your mobile phone? Who do you ring? Are you alone? Is it just you and the baby? How long will you have to wait? Are you already late for an appointment? Are you totally dependent on the car? What’s all this going to cost?

So, please assess the likelihood of your car breaking down and what the consequences would be for you. Be assured the risks, the embarrassment and the unplanned heavy cost are not worth it. They can be prevented by following the Manufacturer’s recommended services as shown in the Driver’s manual. Do have a read or visit your preferred Repairer and ask him. Even the car that is hardly ever used needs to be serviced at least once a year, irrespective of distance or age.

Happy motoring!
